Vitamins for the Skin:

Vitamins for the Skin:
Our Map to the Fountain of Youth

Legend has it that the Spanish conquistador, Ponce de León, spent his life in a vain search for the fountain of youth, and he is certainly not the only one. While history is full of dreams and legends of magical places that promise the gift of youthful beauty forever, modern times have brought an explosion of marketing that only barely fall short of offering the same thing.  It is no wonder, of course: everyone faces the inevitable prospect of aging, and everyone wants to hold on to youth.  It has only been recently, however, that science has allowed us to unlock the exciting secrets of slowing the natural aging of the skin.

Recent studies have indicated that the same Vitamins which have a vital role in the body’s metabolism can also have a powerful effect in the skin’s war against aging.   More and more extensive, documented research shows that Vitamins protect the body’s tissues from damage caused by any number of factors, including environmental stresses like UV radiation or pollution, aging, or even lifestyle choices like smoking or drinking.  However, while the association between Vitamins and good health has long been established, only very recently have studies indicated that Vitamin deficiencies may be external as well as internal.

Beauty Technology Institute and Revitacel Skincare have cooperated to develop advanced methods of nourishing the skin naturally from the outside to help fight the war against aging.  These Advanced Berridroxies™ products are enriched with Vitamins A, B, C, and E as well as such essential minerals as calcium, magnesium, zinc and potassium.

But, what do these Vitamins do?

Each Vitamin has unique properties, and all are essential for a healthy, balanced metabolism both inside and out.  In terms of skin care, their roles become even more specialized, each playing an integral part in the prevention and repair of the damages the skin naturally suffers as we age.

Vitamin A:
Wrinkle Warrior and Normalizer

Also known as retinol, Vitamin A is probably best known for its role in maintaining good vision.  In the fight against aging, because it is essential not only for the skin’s natural development, but also for the growth and preservation of skin bones, teeth, nails and hair, Vitamin A is often referred as a normalizer. It acts to fight wrinkles, working to reduce the appearance of lines often before they even start.  The unique formulations of Revitacel Skincare’s Berridroxies skin care products gently and naturally normalize the proportions of Vitamin A in the skin, penetrating deeply to:

·         Thicken and strengthen both epidermis and the dermis

·         Increase the elasticity of the skin

·         Moisturize and soothe dry, parched skin

Vitamin B Complex:
The Protein Team

Really a team of several essential Vitamins, including riboflavin, thiamin, B6 and B12, the Vitamin B complex works like a well-trained crew in to carry out functions ranging from metabolism to maintaining a healthy heart and mind. Its integral role in the production of lipids and proteins in the skin makes it essential to the growth of healthy new cells, and a deficiency of Vitamin B can result in various forms of dermatological dysfunction.

Also found in the Berridroxies™ formulas, Ethyl Panthenol (related to the B complex) enhances their penetrative power, carrying their gentle but powerful benefits quickly and deeply into the skin.

Vitamin C:
The Healer

Vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid, plays an important role in both general nutrition and in the maintenance of healthy, younger-looking skin.  While it is essential for strong teeth and healthy gums, its most important qualities promote the healing of wounds. In much the same way, it promotes the generation and maintenance of collagen—that same foundation element of the skin that makes a scar feel firm and strengthens young, healthy skin. Application of Vitamin C topically can:

·         Stimulate the synthesis of collagen

·         Potentially reverse the effects of the thinning of the epidermis with age

·         Present a long term, natural protection against harmful UV radiation

The berries used in the production of the exclusive Berridroxies formulas are always selected for their richness in natural sugars and Vitamin C.

Vitamin E:
Anti-Oxidant Extraordinaire and Moisturizer Magnifique

Also called tocopherol, Vitamin E’s primary role is as a powerful anti-oxidant.  By neutralizing harmful byproducts and pollutants in our bodies (known as free radicals), anti-oxidants are critical in the prevention of such health concerns as premature aging, cardiovascular disease, and cancer. When applied to the skin, Vitamin E and other anti-oxidants can play a crucial role in the protection of the cells and tissues from damage caused by free radicals.

Revitacel Skincare’s powerful Advanced Anti-Aging Capsules carry replacement charges of Vitamin E, which is easily depleted in the skin by the sun’s UV rays and ozone.  With regular application, they will:

·         Reduce UV-induced damage and enhance the performance of UV blocks in the sun

·         Enhance the skin’s smoothness over time

·         Block damage to the skins delicate cell membranes

·         Soothe and moisturize the skin inside and out

Not only a free radical fighter, Vitamin E also works as a powerful moisturizer, absorbing UV rays and actually preventing dehydration and the loss of natural oils from the skin.  By working from within, Vitamin E can also play a very important role in:

·         Protection and Strengthening of the skin’s vital outer layers

·         Restoring and repairing the intercellular moisture barrier of the skin

·         Helping the skin to maintain essential flexibility and elasticity

Nutrition for the Skin

As you can see, Vitamins work for the body in dozens of ways, and they are essential for the prevention of premature aging and the maintenance of healthy, younger-looking skin.  So often, health-conscious consumers expend precious time and money on what goes into their bodies, never realizing the power or the nutritional value of what goes onto their bodies.

SKIN BASICS

In general, most people "over wash" and "over stimulate"
their skin by using hot water, harsh soaps, rough wash cloths
and buff puffs. With normal or sensitive skin, these items can cause
broken capillaries and redden skin. With oily/breakout skin,
they can over stimulate the sebaceous oil glands
and actually cause MORE oil production and breakouts. And,
with dry, photo-damaged skin, these things can dry
out the skin even further. Could you be one of these people?
If so,the following are some basic common sense rules
for taking bettercare of your skin.

AM SKIN CARE REGIMEN:

First, above all else, never use soap. It not only strips
the skin of its natural moisture factor leaving it dry
and flaky, but also destroys the acid mantle, a skin
barrier that protects from the infiltration of bacteria
and infection. Remember, using soap can be equated to using
a scouring cleanser. Instead, use a mild facial wash(like Revitacel Skin Basics #1
or Foaming Cleanser with Berridroxies) with tepid water.
Gently wash your face with your fingers using a circular motion. For oily/breakout skin,
try a salicylic wash (like Revitacel Beta Hydroxy Cleanser).
And for normal, dry or photo-damaged skins, try a milky cleanser.
Rinse thoroughly. Glide a dampened soft pad over the skin
to check for any leftover impurities or residue.
Blot dry with a soft fluffy towel. Avoid rubbing or
pulling on the face. This cleansing process
should be done once in the morning
and once again before bedtime.

Next, while the pores are still open, apply vital serums
such as Revitacel Activating Serum with Berridroxies
or Skin Basics #2, so that they are able to penetrate
down to the dermis layer to effect the collagen and elastin production.
Let dry. Spritz an alcohol-free toner like Skin Basics #4
to re-establish PH balance and to close the pores.

Now you are ready to seal and protect with a moisturizer.
Oily skin moisturizers should be in gel or lotion form like
Revitacel 24 Hour Moisturizer with Berridroxies
.
Creams are far too rich for oily skin and can actually create more problems,
but are great for normal, sensitive, dry or photo-damaged skins.
Skin Basics #4 and #5 are great for dry or sensitive skins!

PM SKIN CARE REGIMEN:

Save your skin from the ravages of the world with a "salon
style" at-home mask. After cleansing, sit with your face
over a bowl of hot water to open the pores.
Next, apply appropriate mask. For oily skin, choose a clarifying clay mask
which draws up impurities and oils like Bella Coola.
A rutin azulen mask will help soothe and calm sensitive skin
(for best results here use Revitacel Sensitive Skin
Mask
), while an AHA, antioxidant, or hydrating mask will
benefit normal dry or photo-damaged skins (use Revitacel Hydrating Mask.

Masks should be applied three times weekly. However, if
skin is extremely oily, then a clarifying clay mask can be applied
every night. All masks should be left on for 10-15 minutes
and removed with a warm soft fluffy wash cloth.
Spritz with an alcohol free toner to close the pores.

Last but not least, let a night renewal cream with a
glycolic alpha or beta hydroxy or retinol exfoliate work for you
all night while you sleep. Revitacel Night Treament or Advanced Perfecting Cream
are great choices! Make sure that it is in a light lotion form
for oily skins, and a rich creamy formulation for normal,
dry or photo-damaged skin. It will gently exfoliate
the skin while encouraging cellular turnover for a more radiant appearance.
You'll love waking up to your face.

Get the Facts Behind Anti-Aging Products
and Their Active Ingredients: Activate the Anti-Aging Process

The aging process begins when we enter the world and the
effects of aging are evident in our bodies through out our
lives. Beginning in our 20's, the signs of aging
start to become noticeable. Genetically programmed
chronologic aging causes changes in collagen and elastin,
the connective tissues that supply firmness and elasticity to the skin.
The genetic program of individuals is different, so the loss
of skin firmness and elasticity occurs at different rates and
different times in one individual as compared to another.

As skin becomes less elastic,
it also becomes drier and underlying fat padding begins
to disappear. With the loss of underlying support
by fat padding and connective tissues, the skin begins to sag;
it appears less supple and wrinkles form.

Although wrinkles, lines and age spots are formed by the natural effects
of getting older, one way to prevent them from appearing early
on in life is to avoid direct sunlight and use
sunscreens with SPFs 15 or higher.

And, although most of us have some form of sun-damaged skin,
there are ways to regain healthy, smooth skin. After many years
of research, scientists, dermatologists and plastic surgeons
have discovered that a variety of natural
ingredients and vitamin extracts significantly help slow down
and even reverse the signs of aging skin.
These ingredients are now found in many physician
developed and physician recommended anti-aging skin care products,
which are specified below.

Vitamin A (Retinol) - Topical Vitamin A has been
suggested to help build collagen fibers within the
skin in addition to its more superficial exfoliating
property. This is the basis for its use in minimizing the appearance of fine
wrinkle lines. Vitamin A or Retinol is the main ingredient
found in Anti-Aging Radiant Replenishing Creams.

Vitamin C - Vitamin C or ascorbic acid acts as an
antioxidant and is considered vital in wound healing
because it aids in stabilizing collagen.
When applied topically, vitamin C
can reduce fine lines and wrinkles and may
lessen the severity of sunburns.
This healing vitamin can be found in Revitacel's
Eye Hyrdrate with Fruit Acidand all
Revitacel Berridroxies Products.

Vitamin E - Vitamin E is another antioxidant that
shows to have anti-inflammatory effects on the skin.
When applied topically, vitamin E has been
shown to improve moisture, softness and smoothness
and also provides modest photo protection.
Vitamin E is found in Revitacel Advanced Perfecting Cream ,and
Anti-Aging Replenishing Cream.

Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) - AHAs are designed to
smooth fine lines and surface wrinkles, to improve
skin texture and tone, to unblock and cleanse pores
, to improve oily skin or acne, and to improve
skin condition in general. AHAs are the main
Beta Hydroxy Cleansing Gel and Revitacel AHA eye treaments.

Glycolic Acid - Glycolic acid is the most active and
beneficial of the Alpha-Hydroxy-Acids (AHAs) in skin
care. Once inside the cells, the acid triggers new
formations of collagen to plump cells and the ground
substances in the skin to reduce wrinkles on the skin's
surface. Glycolic acid is proven to be very effective
in the treatment of acne as well as in cosmetic uses.
Glycolic acid is found in Revitacel Botanical Skin Renewal Peel.

Green Tea Extract - Green tea's anti-inflammatory
and anti-growth qualities are found in
many skin care products designed to reduce the appearance of puffiness,
wrinkles, fine lines and large pores. Green Tea is found in
Revitacel Anti-Aging Radiant Replenishing Cream and Eye Cream .

Human Fibroblast Conditioned Media- The biotechnology of the skin's natural healing
process has arrived with the first tissue repairing
complex containing growth factors found in normal, healthy skin.
Unlike anything else currently on the market,
Replenishing Complex with Nourical is the next level
of skin rejuvenation that delivers dramatic results,
for smoother, softer, younger looking skin.
Human Fibroblast Conditioned Media is found in Revitacel Replenishing Complex.

Many customers ask which anti-aging product is best and we
always respond by saying that there is no "best"
product. Since every individual's skin is different,
the results of using anti-aging products will be different
as well. We recommend that you consult with a skin care professional
prior to use of any new skin care product to determine your
skin type, skin condition and possible sensitivities
to active ingredients. Your skin care professional
may recommend specific products, or you can try a few
on your own based on your consultation. If you are
not happy with the first product you try,
try another one. It's important that you choose a product
and skin care regimen that makes you feel 100% comfortable
with the look and feel of your skin.

Customers also inquire about when they should expect to
see results from using anti-aging products. Again,
we respond by saying that results will be different for each individual,
generally due to the condition of one's skin prior to use.
However, across the board, we say not to expect a miracle,
as there is no anti-aging product on the market that provides overnight
results. Whether you are trying to reduce the appearance of fine lines,
wrinkles, dark circles, puffiness or age spots, the process is gradual
and takes anywhere from 4 to 8 weeks depending on the severity
of your problem areas. After allowing the products time to take
effect as well as following product directions, you can be sure to
notice significant improvement in the appearance of
your skin.

To see the quickest results, you will have to undergo
professional cosmetics procedures. While procedures such
as laser treatments, injections and dermabrasion produce the fastest,
most noticeable improvements, they are all are somewhat painful
or uncomfortable and very costly. In addition, pre and post
treatment plans are required to achieve maximum results,
which consist of using skin care products, that are also
proven to be safe, effective, painless and less
expensive alternatives to professional cosmetic procedures.

Please note that with the use of any new skin care
product, it is possible that your skin will
react to the ingredients. You may experience irritation,
redness, dryness or a mild breakout, which should only
last for the first 3-5 days of use. If you
experience any of these reactions for a longer period of time,
or the reactions are severe, please let us know ASAP.
